Jan 15th, 2009.
The Annual General Meeting of the North American Rammed Earth Builders Association will be held in Whistler this upcoming weekend.
NAREBA was created as a non profit association last year in order to spread knowledge and grow the rammed earth industry.
We have a dozen members in the Pacific Northwest, and they will be coming to tour the Cedar Grove house while in town for meetings.
Cedar Grove is one of the larger rammed earth projects ever built in Canada. It will be a showcase of new technology.
I’m looking forward to showing it off !
Rob.

The main entrance stairs will lead up between these posts.

These photos were taken December 19th, just before Christmas.
Stay tuned for the first photos from 2009!

A lot has happened since the last post!
Here’s alook back at the end of the roof framing, just before the snow started coming down in early December…..
This the dining wing of the house:

Here we are lowering the living room support beam onto the steel columns. The beam has a hole in it so we can slide it down to the support brackets.

These are the rest of the roof beams being installed:

You can finally start to see the shape of the house emerging!

We then fly up the living room wing rafters:

And then we started tarping up the house to keep the weather out….

Stay tuned for more photos!

We prepared most of our beams on top of the garage roof. We then craned them into place on top of the steel or wooden posts….
… placing beams….
Here’s Al, surrounded by some of the timberwork:
…these are rafters, waiting to get lifted up onto the beams….
….placing rafters, which will be spread out into position later….
You can start to see the shape of the East wing…..
Now we start prepping beams for the West wing….
As you can see, there are a lot of rafters in this house. They were all milled from standing dead wood — no live trees were cut.
By the time we’re done, we will have flown up and positioned over 160 rafters!
Stay tuned!!!!
